History and tradition
Opened in the 19th century as the “Alter Wirt” (“Old Innkeeper”), our company has enjoyed an excellent reputation for high-end hospitality for almost 200 years.
In 1955 Josef and Helene Bauer take on the property and pass it on, well managed, to their son Ernst and his wife Maria. Under their leadership, the Bauer reinforces its name as an outstanding restaurant and airport hotel. With demolition and rebuilding, then an extension added to the hotel shortly thereafter, the family sets the course for the future at the beginning of the 1980s. After the Riem Airport closes, the Bauers turn their company into a convention hotel and then, with the opening of the Messe München (Munich Fair), into a convention and fair hotel.
The third generation now maintains the family tradition of evolving the Bauer in keeping with the times. Christian Bauer and his sister Petra Otto lead the company with their mother Maria Bauer, with all the amenities of modern times – and it remains one of the most renowned addresses on the east side of Munich.
